AAC Lauds Deputies' Defeat of "Heterosexism" Resolution

The American Anglican Council (AAC) lauded yesterday's defeat by the House of Deputies of a section of Resolution C008 on so-called "heterosexism." C008 included a provision that would have provided for the development of a study guide on "heterosexism" and claimed that "heterosexual persons are advantaged economically, societally, as well as in other respects, at the expense of homosexual persons."

"People are tired of calling each other names. We are past that," said Guido Verbeck, deputy from the Diocese Western Louisiana. "In defeating resolution C008, the House said plainly that we don?t need more names, labels or clubs. We need to get about the business of doing God?s work."

The AAC also applauded the House of Deputies for deleting language in Resolution A052 which would have led the Episcopal Church to acknowledge "that the blessing of committed, monogamous relationships, including same-gender relationships, promoted effective prevention of HIV/AIDS."

Opponents of Resolution A052 suggested that the same-gender relationship language was just another attempt by homosexual advocates to sow division in the Episcopal Church.

The American Anglican Council is an orthodox and mainstream mission organization working for the transformation and revitalization of the Episcopal Church.
